The Homebound Library Service provides regular delivery of library materials to individuals who qualify:
- Medical/physical limitations that have severely restricted the ability to personally visit the library
- Temporary shut-in (due to illness, injury, etc.)
- Reside in assisted living, nursing, or retirement communities
- Visually impaired (eligibility for Talking Book Service is determined by the Federal Government's criteria)
Patrons are visited monthly in their place of residence. An initial visit by the Homebound Library staff will be made to explain the program.
Lobby stops at senior apartment complexes are also available.
A collection of Large Print materials is maintained for Homebound users. Patrons may borrow regular and Large Print books, audio books, magazines, Large Print Reader's Digest and Guideposts magazines, and DVDs (2 week loan by mail).
Individuals may request books on a specific topic or in a particular genre or library staff will select a variety of reading material each month. No library cards are issued to Homebound Library Service customers.
As a service to individuals in Trumbull County who are visually limited, the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library serves as a sub-lending agency for the National Library Service, offering individuals the opportunity to take advantage of the free Talking Books program through the Library of Congress. After completing a special application with the assistance of the Homebound Library Services staff, qualified users will be supplied with a special Talking Book player which plays "books" and "magazines" recorded at a special slow speed. Materials are sent directly in the mail; there is no postage fee for returning them.
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library continues a partnership with the McKinley Memorial Library in Niles and the Newton Falls Public Library to offer a Homebound program in their service areas.
